Sometimes Windows does not update automatically. When this happens, chaos ensues. I won’t be able to log in, monitors don’t display properly, or I have to put in my credentials eleventy million times. Maybe it is just me. But I am guessing not.
To avoid these scenarios, you can manually update. If you are like me and things like this scare you, have no fear. We have tapped IT professional Joey Musaitef of Proactive Information Management to walk us through the steps.
Windows Updates:
- Click Start on the bottom left corner of your screen
- Click Settings (Looks like a cogwheel)
- On the new page click Update & Security
- On the new page click Check for Updates
- Let the PC run for updates
- **If the screen says “You’re up to date” click it anyways**
- Restart PC if Windows ask to reboot
System Updates:
- Click Start on the bottom left corner of your screen
- Scroll down to ‘L’ and click Lenovo
- **You may have more than one Lenovo folder**
- Click the application called System Update
- When the box pops up click Next
- Let the PC run for updates
- When the box pops up click all 3 tabs and make sure all of boxes are checked off.
- The 3 tabs are: Critical updates, Recommended updates, and Optional updates.
- **If there are 0 updates on all 3 tabs then you can close out of the app**
- After you select all the updates click Next
- Let the PC run the updates
- If a pop-up box, ask you for permission hit accept / Next
- **Some updates require you to click Next to continue**
- Restart the PC if the system update requires it
Now, if Joey could only do the rest of my work for me, that would be great.
