Engaging with your prospects and clients via email can be overwhelming.  But email marketing remains one of the surest bet's around in terms of ROI. Don't let the allure of webinars and video campaigns distract you from the fact that email generates, on average, a whopping $42 for every $1 spent.

There are roughly 4 billion daily email users across the globe (Statista).  So how do you get these people to open your emails?  As always, the answer is that you have to be helpful and human.

Best Practices for Email Marketing

Make it Personal

Avoid sending emails from your company wide email address like info@yourcompany.com. You're establishing a relationship with a person, so the email should come from a person.

Have a Great Subject Line

  • Keep it short & sweet. No more than 50 characters.
  • Keep it fun. Use appropriate emojis.
  • Avoid spam trigger words like FREE or ACT NOW.

Use Your Preview Text

Your preview text gives you between 40-120 characters to elaborate on your subject line. Don't waste it!

Get in Their Inbox at the Right Time

Each week is different, but statistically, the best days and times to send emails are:

  • Wednesdays at 11am
  • Wednesdays at 3pm
  • Thursdays at 1pm

Use Segmentation

The more personalized your content is, the better. Sort your contacts into lists so that the right content is getting to the right people.

Use Personalization

Remember, you want to be helpful and human. So address your email to the person's first name. If you don't have it, choose a placeholder that fits your segmentation.

Make Your Content Count

  • Keep it to a single page
  • Include a call-to-action
  • Don't forget to design for mobile

Develop Strategy

Pre-create your content with your buyer's journey in mind. Each communication should further develop your relationship, turning prospects into happy customers.
